Delegated Proof of Stake (DPoS)

DPoS lets token holders vote for a small set of delegates who produce blocks on everyone’s behalf.

In depth

With only a few dozen block producers, DPoS chains can be very fast and cheap. The trade-off is concentration: those delegates hold significant power, and voter apathy can entrench them. Networks like EOS and Tron popularised the model.

Many small voters casting ballots toward 21 delegate seats, which take turns producing blocks.

Why it matters

It shows how speed is often bought with reduced decentralization.
